The recipe, in here, uses whole milk while my Tante used heavy cream. No worries. I'll probably try half and half. It was funny, when I took the cookbook to a family party I had to authentic Bavarian cooks take a look at it. While they didn't say the recipes weren't authentic, Bavarian's take a lot of pride in having their own little tweaks/5(22).

However, these recipes are an excellent account of traditional Bavarian cooking, plus one gets a good read about Bavaria, including a full colour map. By the way, I was very disspointed to find no mention at all of a recipe for Bavarian meatballs.

I've now got the recipe from elsewhere, and it is so good it really should be in this book/5(46). Throughout the book there are several well thought out, beautifully illustrated and informative pages about such things as Bavarian beer purity, an intro to Bavarian beer and handy indexes of things like kid friendly recipes and vegetarian recipes/5(68).

Also remember that the style of cooking used in this cookbook is effortless. So even though the recipes will be unique and great tasting, creating them will take minimal effort.
